Skanska, in a design-build partnership with Hastings + Chivetta, designed and constructed a new Campus Recreation Center on Georgia Tech's campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The $43.2 million project expanded the existing athletic center to include 273,000-SF of new construction and 210,000-SF of renovated space.

During the first phase of construction, Skanska enclosed the outdoor Olympic-sized pool and diving well (built for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games), and added an additional structural floor 65 feet above the pool, which now houses a six-court gymnasium space. Phase I also included construction of a 550-car, three level parking deck immediately north of the complex. During phase II, the existing fitness center was demolished and a new center with a climbing wall, workout space, offices, raised running track and locker rooms was constructed. An outdoor leisure pool with slides completes the complex. Throughout the project, our team worked closely the engineer to ensure that any design challenges were met with innovative, collaborative solutions.

"It is with great pleasure that I write this letter regarding Skanska and its involvement in the Design/Build delivery of Georgia Tech's Campus Recreation Center. Ever since the building was first occupied, the students and staff of Georgia Tech have commented on the exceptional design, quality and functionality of what has become a social gathering place for the entire campus"
