Skanska is providing pre-construction and construction management services for this new center. For several years, the University of West Georgia has worked to create a signature building for their campus that will allow the university community to come together during convocation and graduation functions, on campus. In addition, the school has desired a new facility to serve as the home court for the university’s basketball team and, when not used during intercollegiate play, become a central gathering point on campus. To help make that dream a reality, Skanska was selected to provide pre-construction and construction management services for this state-of-the art facility, constructed in the heart of the university’s campus. The three-story, 130,000-SF facility contains dozens of functional spaces that serve all facets of student life as well as much needed classroom and administrative space.
This multi-purpose venue contains multiple classrooms and instructional areas, administrative offices, locker and bathroom facilities, an indoor running track, a weight room, aerobics room, physical education teaching area and a 7,500-seat basketball arena capable of hosting concerts, performances and televised, intercollegiate sporting events. Another unique feature of this facility is the three- story, open pre-function area located at the center of the building which serves as the primary architectural focal point and allows the university to entertain social gatherings with distinguished guests in an open, inviting setting.
